The Case for Team Building at Incentives

Teambuilding and Incentives for top performing teams

Team Building at Incentives: Yes or No?

Your top sales performers from across the continent have gathered in an exotic off shore locale. Or Southern California. Florida. South Texas. Where ever. They won the right to attend the incentive program trip and you want them and their guests to feel recognized, rewarded, appreciated, pampered. Do you really want to include team building at incentives? Aside from the fancy dinners, optional outings and bar, you’re not sure you should expect the group to show up at the same time and location.

But why would you pass up on such a key opportunity to gather everyone together and build momentum, enthusiasm and motivation? Often the sales teams at these programs are highly social, competitive individuals who are energized by networking with and playing against their peers. Take full advantage of having your most effective ambassadors together in one place and capitalize on their energy and excitement. Including team building at incentives is a great way to harness this enthusiasm for your brand and your organization.

So what type of events?

Keep the focus on the fun versus getting heavy handed with skill building team building. If you’re on a beach front there are loads of options for your group. Just a few to consider: beach olympics, sand castle builds, and boat building. And you can never beat a great scavenger hunt. Hunts can easily be themed and customized to both the location and the group.

And especially when you are gathered to celebrate the performance of the key players on your sales team, adding in a generous twist is effective. CSR and give back events are always a hit and well appreciated by the community where you are hosting your program.

Another option is to pick an activity indigenous to the area and culture. Is it salsa making or a regional cocktail? Perhaps pinata building or a dance-off using the steps and moves from the locale.

It’s all about them

When you reward your best performers with this type of incentive experience, you demonstrate how important they are. They can share with their spouse, partner or guest how truly great their organization is. Including team building at incentives adds an extra element of fun, networking and connection. This can add an additional boost to morale and assist in the HR departments retention and loyalty efforts. Win-win-win.
